Another GREAT Cover!

To everyone who's asked me when my next Nocturne is coming out... I have an answer for you!
February 1, 2009! Here it comes. VANISHED goes on sale.

This book is about my Immortal Guardians and this one in particular was TONS of fun for me! Vanished is set in Ireland, in County Mayo, to be precise.

And, it's set in the very place my dh and I stayed the last time we were in Ireland. A fabulous 'self catering' cottage, which is basically a cottage you rent for your stay. On the same grounds as a B&B owned and run by the owners, The Staunton family, who also own the sheep farm where the cottages are located.

It sits on the banks of Lough Mask and it was absolutely the most beautiful place I've ever stayed.

The book is dedicated to the Stauntons and if you want to take a look at their place, Click HERE to see Knight's Cottage in Tourmakeady, Ireland.............and I guarantee you'll want to go see it for yourself!

History Day..........

I'm posting this on Sunday night because --well, because I wanted to! But it's Monday's history I'm talking about.......

Today in 1558, Elizabeth I became Queen of England after the death of Queen Mary. During Elizabeth's reign, 1558-1603, England became a world power.

1851, the US Post Office issued a 1 cent carrier stamp. (It was all down hill from there.)

1869, the Suez Canal opened, connecting the Meditteranean and the Red Seas, eliminating a 4,000 mile trip around Africa.

1954, Arnold Palmer signed a contract with Wilson Sporting Goods and became a golf pro.

1968, the HEIDI game happened on TV. The Jets/Raiders football game was cut off to begin playing the family movie, Heidi. Viewers missed Oakland making TWO touchdowns in the last nine seconds to win the game 43-32. The next day at NBC, a few heads rolled and they came up with the idea of program delay....

1981, Luke Spencer married Laura Baldwin on ABC. That's right, General Hospital's favorite couple generated an audience of 14 million people. (Yes, I was one of 'em)

1993, US House of Representatives approved NAFTA by a vote of 234-200

That's it for me........let's hear from you guys this week!

Scary days........

I was going to do a rant today, because I'm hot--(Fall in Southern California, hello 90 degrees!). Plus, had to go to the grocery store and got completely cranked out by the lousy drivers and then the people in the store who clearly shouldn't be out on their own.

BUT, then the wildfires really kicked into high gear. In So. CA, we get wildfires nearly every year. And we've been very rain deprived for the last three years, so it's worse now than ever. The slightest spark will set things off.

Yesterday, the fires were burning in Montecito and Santa, there are more. The picture up there is of the sun shining down on my house and we're about forty miles from the closest fires. There's so much smoke and ash in the air, the light is yellow.

The other picture is of the sky with the smoke rolling in. There's ash flying in the air too and the Santa Ana winds are howling, which are just not helping the firefighters any.

So, crabbiness forgotten while I think about family and friends who are in the paths of the fires. We're praying for the people who've lost everything in these fires and we're praying for the firefighters who are all that's standing between the flames and the people in danger...........

History Day.....

On this day in 1775, the Continental Congress, getting ready for the big revolution to come, authorized the formation of two battalions of U.S. Marines.

And thanks to them, their families and all of the other military branches, we continue to be safe and secure in an everchanging world. So tonight, when we all go to bed in our safe homes, take a moment to pray for the safety of those who risk everything to ensure our freedom........

1871, Henry Stanley uttered that famous line, "Dr. Livingstone I presume", when after an eight month search through Africa, he finally located the missing explorer/missionary

1928, Knute Rockne gave his speech about 'winning one for the gipper'

1928, Hirohito was enthroned as Emperor of Japan

1929, Kate Smith sang Irving Berlin's God Bless America on national radio

1939, the first air-conditioned automobile went on display at the Auto Show in Chicago

1951, Direct dial, coast to coast telephone service began as the Mayor of Englewood, NJ called his counterpart in Alameda, CA

1954, the Iwo Jima Memorial was dedicated in Arlington, VA

1956, Billie Holliday returned to the New York City stage after a three year absence

1969, Twenty years after its original release, Gene Autry received a gold record for Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

1969, Sesame Street debuted on TV

1975, The worst Great Lakes shipwreck of the time, the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald happened today. 29 crewmembers died

1989 Word Perfect 5.1 shipped today. Full retail price in the US, 500 dollars!

That's all for about you??

Mental Vacations........

So, now that the election hoopla is over, everybody need a vacation?
Well, I do! Especially since I'm also on a very tight (and tightening) deadline.

The other day, my mom sent me an email loaded with some of the most gorgeous photos I've ever seen.

This one is one of my favorites. I don't know if it was actually taken in Ireland, but it really reminds me of that beautiful country. So, I slapped it up onto my desktop, so that every time I open my computer now, I can pretend to be lazing on that lake, staring up at that glorious sky and smelling the smoke coming from a fire in that cozy cottage.

How about you? Where do you go when you take a mental vacation??

History Day........

Well, I tried to make this picture smaller, but the Wicked Witch of the West put a spell on Blogger!!

On this day in 1956, the WIZARD OF OZ was first shown on television!! CBS played the movie and I'm sure got the highest ratings in the world.

The first time I saw that movie as a kid, this witch scared the CRAP outta me......she's still the best. Well, except for maybe Malificent in Sleeping Beauty.........

And in other news.....

1892, the first successful automatic telephone system was introduced in LaPorte, IN

1934, the first race track in California, Bay Meadows, opened

1936 President Franklin D. Roosevelt was re-elected in a landslide

1941, the Glenn Miller orchestra recorded STRING OF PEARLS

1952, frozen bread was first offered for sale for the first time at a grocery store in Chester, NY

1953, the rules committee of major league baseball restored the Sacrifice Fly. The rule had not been used since 1939

1957, the Soviet Union launched Sputnik 2 into orbit--a dog on board, named Laika, was sacrificed in the experiment

1964, Lyndon B. Johnson did a smackdown on Barry Goldwater to win election to President in his own right

1992, Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton was elected President

1992, Carol Moseely Braun became the first African American woman elected to the US Senate

That's it for me! What've you got??
