This book is about my Immortal Guardians and this one in particular was TONS of fun for me! Vanished is set in Ireland, in County Mayo, to be precise.
And, it's set in the very place my dh and I stayed the last time we were in Ireland. A fabulous 'self catering' cottage, which is basically a cottage you rent for your stay. On the same grounds as a B&B owned and run by the owners, The Staunton family, who also own the sheep farm where the cottages are located.
It sits on the banks of Lough Mask and it was absolutely the most beautiful place I've ever stayed.

I'm posting this on Sunday night because --well, because I wanted to! But it's Monday's history I'm talking about.......
Today in 1558, Elizabeth I became Queen of England after the death of Queen Mary. During Elizabeth's reign, 1558-1603, England became a world power.
1851, the US Post Office issued a 1 cent carrier stamp. (It was all down hill from there.)
1869, the Suez Canal opened, connecting the Meditteranean and the Red Seas, eliminating a 4,000 mile trip around Africa.
1954, Arnold Palmer signed a contract with Wilson Sporting Goods and became a golf pro.
1968, the HEIDI game happened on TV. The Jets/Raiders football game was cut off to begin playing the family movie, Heidi. Viewers missed Oakland making TWO touchdowns in the last nine seconds to win the game 43-32. The next day at NBC, a few heads rolled and they came up with the idea of program delay....
1981, Luke Spencer married Laura Baldwin on ABC. That's right, General Hospital's favorite couple generated an audience of 14 million people. (Yes, I was one of 'em)
1993, US House of Representatives approved NAFTA by a vote of 234-200

Scary days........
I was going to do a rant today, because I'm hot--(Fall in Southern California, hello 90 degrees!). Plus, had to go to the grocery store and got completely cranked out by the lousy drivers and then the people in the store who clearly shouldn't be out on their own.
BUT, then the wildfires really kicked into high gear. In So. CA, we get wildfires nearly every year. And we've been very rain deprived for the last three year
s, so it's worse now than ever. The slightest spark will set things off.
Yesterday, the fires were burning in Montecito and Santa Barbara....today, there are more. The picture up there is of the sun shining down on my house and we're about forty miles from the closest fires. There's so much smoke and ash in the air, the light is yellow.
The other picture is of the sky with the smoke rolling in. There's ash flying in the air too and the Santa Ana winds are howling, which are just not helping the firefighters any.
So, crabbiness forgotten while I think about family and friends who are in the paths of the fires. We're praying for the people who've lost everything in these fires and we're praying for the firefighters who are all that's standing between the flames and the people in danger...........

Mental Vacations........
So, now that the election hoopla is over, everybody need a vacation?
Well, I do! Especially since I'm also on a very tight (and tightening) deadline.
The other day, my mom sent me an email loaded with some of the most gorgeous photos I've ever seen.
This one is one of my favorites. I don't know if it was actually taken in Ireland, but it really reminds me of that beautiful country. So, I slapped it up onto my desktop, so that every time I open my computer now, I can pretend to be lazing on that lake, staring up at that glorious sky and smelling the smoke coming from a fire in that cozy cottage.

The first time I saw that movie as a kid, this witch scared the CRAP outta me......she's still the best. Well, except for maybe Malificent in Sleeping Beauty.........
