Promotion? Yes or No?...........
So I was just wondering......it's one thing to sit and write books. A job I love and feel emminently qualified for, given that I do NOT play well with others. I like sitting alone on my couch, creating people and worlds that wouldn't exist without me........Hmm. That sounds like some sort of God complex, but that's a blog for another day.
The question is, is writing a good book enough? Does the writer have to also become a huckster? You know, getting out there, taking out ads, printing up newsletters and mailing out bookmarks? (Used to do bookmarks when I was a newbie, but haven't in a long time!)
What I want to know is, does the promotion make a difference to you, the reader? Will you try someone you've never read before because of a well placed ad or because you picked up a bookmark at the store? What is it that makes you want to read someone new? Quotes on the cover? Word of mouth? Or should I start employing a few publicity specialists??
Shameless Self Promotion.........
Okay, so yeah... I'm going to push my own book. Tacky? That's a personal call. And I'm willing to risk it!
This is my August Desire,
SCORNED BY THE BOSS if I do say so myself, it's a terrific story! It's the first in a trilogy about three girlfriends who all end up with the man of their dreams. Well, sure they do. They're romances, aren't they?
But the fun part is, the girlfriends are all on a fabulous resort island to treat themselves after being dumped by assorted losers!
So, despite the cover picture of the balding man in the white rubber suit, run out and buy yourself a copy of
SCORNED BY THE BOSS! Your local writer will thank you!
Mini Break..........
So, my mom came in for a few days and since she lives pretty much in the middle of hot, dry country, she had a yen to see the beach again!
She grew up at the ocean and really misses it, so off we went. The surfers were plentiful--the waves, not so much. Still, it was gorgeous out. We had lunch at Ruby's at the end of the Huntington Beach pier and then just did some wave watching.
A mini break from the deadline crunch. Unless you're my editor, in which case, I never left the house--in fact, I'm still chained to my computer!!
Deadline Territory.........
Well, the RWA National conference really threw my writing schedule off. Happens every year. Now, my friends and I usually figure that we'll lose the week before, the week during and the week after. Which, as you might imagine, throws a real wrench into Deadline Ville.......
I've been playing catchup and sort of looking like my much better dressed friend here in the picture. Eyes wide, staring at my screen and beginning to imagine that the computer is actually sneering at me. Hmmm...
The point is, I'm working hard and thought I'd stop by to see what everyone else is doing! Please tell me you're having fun!
