And the nominees are.............

So yesterday was CALL day! That's right, romance writers the world over huddled beside their telephones, shrieking at family members to keep the line clear. We cursed at telemarketers for getting their hopes up by ringing their phone. And we whined to our friends via email when the phone didn't ring!

That was me, anyway. Yeah yeah, we always say we're fine with it. We're not really counting on making the finals. But secretly, we all want the phone to ring. So imagine my surprise, when, being the last dinosaur on the face of the planet, I'd spent hours online yesterday, hanging out at Romance Bandits, answering questions and whatnot....Then I get an email from LINDA HOWARD!

That's right. THE Linda Howard, asking me to phone her asap. So naturally I did! Who wouldn't call HER back? That's when I found out I was a RITA finalist! Seemed she'd been trying to get hold of me for hours, but my line was busy! I"m very grateful that RWA doesn't just pull your nomination when you're annoying!!

My Christmas vampire novella CHRISTMAS CRAVINGS, is a finalist in the novella category for the RITA award! Very exciting, of course! And I had such a good time writing that story that I'm really glad it got noticed. And after all....what's Christmas without a vampire?????

I know, I know.........so stupid!! LOL....but come on, Jen! I waited until ten o'clock to go online!!

    LOL Hi Cyndi!!

Oh hell........I HATE change!! I'm the one who had to be dragged kicking and screaming to a computer! one of these days, I'll manage it. and you know...wasn't so very long ago that my pal Jen was also on dialup!

Maureen!! Fantastic achievement... such wonderful news, I'll be yelling for you in SF. :-) :-)

High speed isn't all it's cracked up to be...my kids managed to use a month's worth of GB over the Easter weekend. So we're back on dialup speed :-/

Tessa, THANKS! I appreciate the yelling in SF!

And I'm so glad to know there's someone else out there on dialup!

I'm not on dial up any more but it's been less than a year since i went DSL. Not the highest high speed but at least the phone can ring while I'm on the computer.(Is that a really good thing??) Maybe if you're a writer waiting for THE PHONE CALL.

    CONGRATULATIONS on the nomination.

Ellen........thanks for the congrats! Very exciting!

And I would think it'd be weird to hear the phone ring while online. At least for awhile! LOL...I'd probably keep checking my connection, seeing if the stupid phone company dumped me off!

Waiting for The Call.....usually, I'm on top of things. But I do remember waiting back in the day for that first sale call. I even refused to buy an answering machine for a long time--because, if I didn't know for sure, I could tell myself that an editor had called for me, but I was out. No problem, she'll call back! How twisted is that??

    Congrats Maureen!!! YAY YOU!!!

I'll be at the conference the first night with Jill and can't wait to meet you in person. She always has such nice things to say about you so I am very excited.

BTW, Easter with the Shalvis family was nice, but darn it uneventful. Can you believe it? She took me on a snow hike that was pretty as always and we discussed the conference and you:)

Hey Gena! Amazing that there are no stories to tell from Jill's house! =)

Sooo glad I finally get to meet you in SF........and clearly, I'm paying Jill enough, since she's still saying nice things about me!

    Hi Maureen,

The only story I have is Jill's husband cooked Easter dinner. Not Jill, the husband. OMG! I am so jealous. The only help I get cooking is my husband telling me he wants. She is a lucky girl.

    Can't wait for SF!

Hey again, Gena.......Jill's dh IS a sweetie!! And so cute, too! =) But as to the cooking thing...I'm pretty sure that's a self defense mechanism!! LOL

    LOL Maureen.

Yes, her husband is a cutie. Have you ever noticed his freakishly straight teeth? I stare at them constantly. And he's so talented too. She has the whole damn package with that guy:)
