History Day........

What a handsome devil he is!! Who wouldn't agree on evolution?? Apparently, a jury in Dayton, Tennessee, who on this day in 1925 convicted John T. Scopes in what came to be called the Monkey Trial, for violating state law by teaching evolution. (Conviction later overturned...)

In other news....

1861, the Battle of Bull Run--The first major battle of the Civil War drew thousands of people, dressed in their Sunday best, out to picnic and watch as 60,000 men fought and died for ten hours. People are really so weird.........

1873, the James gang pulled off the first train robbery ever in America! They got away with 3,000.00--Quite the haul in those days.

1944 American forces landed on Guam during WWII

1954 France surrendered North VietNam to the communists......

1969, Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin blasted off from the moon aboard the lunar module--(and another point, yesterday in 1969 we LANDED on the moon. I was at Angel stadium with my family when it was announced and the whole place stood up and cheered for five full minutes. Very cool)

1973 BAD, BAD LEROY BROWN, reached number 1 on Billboard's pop-singles chart becoming Jim Croce's first big hit. Croce died in a plane crash two months later. (but he's still got me singing that song............)

1980 draft registration began in the U.S. for all men ages 19 and 20

2007, HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HOLLOWS the final volume in JK Rowling's series hit the stands......(and I'm still a little disappointed in some of it!)

How about you guys???

That Battle of Bull Run just amazes me... Isn't that the one where the fighting got too close to the picnickers and they had to run for their lives?

Oh, that would've been so cool to be at Angel Stadium during the moon landing--Or any exciting, huge event like that.

And yes, Disneyland is way too expensive. (Mutters an old castmember)

Here's what I did about Disneyland. Since I enjoy going there so often, I bought an annual pass. It seems like alot of money at first(I bought the premium) But it does pay off, if you go as often as I do. The one I have also includes the parking. And please excuse me for changing the subject a little.

    Hi Michele!

YES.... Cannon shot hit one of the food wagons and sent the picnic goers into a frenzied panic trying to get out...werid, seriously.

Oooh. you worked at Disneyland?? Were you Snow White??

Pat, you can change the subject around here anytime you want to!

when I was a teenager, God this dates me, my friends and I went to Disneyland every weekend. It was only 3.50 for general admission, no rides (back in the days of ticket books) and we'd usually meet a serviceman there to spend the day with...Lots of them around back then in the days of the VietNam war....

Bwahaha! No way I could ever be a face character! One of those monkeys from The Jungle Book, maybe... By the way, how did you get your hands on my high school senior year photo?! I was hoping that wouldn't make its way to the Internet...

Actually, I worked at the Disney Stores waaaay back when they first started (for about 3 years).

And yep, we've had annual passes for about 15 years now, but for the 3 of us it just gets more and more expensive. And this year, we haven't been able to go, except maybe once or twice. It's been a crazy year so far.

I remember the tickets too! And when annual passes were only $75!

I can sooooooo see you as Snow White!!

Yeah, it's ridiculous now. and it's so crowded, it's not fun anymore!

Funny that you remember the tickets too. I tell people that my son was an E ticket ride and they just blink at me....

I wonder how many people who have retired, have gotten jobs at Disneyland just for the fun of it? I should ask around next time I'm there. I'm amazed at how many people have never heard about the ticket books. Hey Maureen, you could always say that your son was BORN on an E ticket ride. It would be fun to see their reaction. I know...bad girl.

Marueen I was a little disppointed in parts of the alst Harry Potter too. But you know, I think it's because we all begin to weave our own stories in our heads.

I sort of worked at the coffee shop in the Disneyland hotel way back when I was in high school. I was 15 and I got high school credits. Then later I worked across the street in a hotel gift shop. I had some interesting experiences there!

Now Ellen, you should try to get back...easy for me to say since I live fifteen minutes away...but everybody's gotta do Disneyland at least a couple of times.

Did I mention that I once tracked down Cary Grant at Disneyland??? And he called me DARLING????
