Reading, Writing and Reading Some More

So I've really been whittling down my TBR pile......(that's To Be Read). Every writer I know has a towering stack of books she buys to read as soon as she gets a chance. Books we've been waiting for. Books we've heard about. Books that have a 'buzz' of interest surrounding them.
But every once in awhile, I really jump into that stack. I write my pages in the morning, and then I'm reading. Reading everything. Mysteries, young adult, romances, horror, suspense, sci-fi, fantasy. You name it, I'll read it. I've even been known to read the backs of cereal boxes when there's nothing else readily available.
I'm making such serious headway that I'm going to have to go book shopping. SOON. Oh, there's a tragedy!! So what're you reading now??

Well I just finished THUNDERSTRUCK by Roxanne St. Claire. It's part of the new NASCAR library category line and was a great read! I loved it.

Can't wait to read the rest. Heck my TBR piles are somewhere in the area of over 1500 last count and growing daily. Some I read ASAP like Kenyon, you, Britton, and a few others, others are part of series that I buy all the books then read them, like the Hotel Marchland series or new books/authors I will probably like but haven't been able to read yet.

I have a question for you, yes again. Do you find reading other authors may influence your writing? Do you worry it'll show up in your writing? Or does it help you?

do you stay away from books that may be in the same genre/subgenre as your current work in progress?

Hi WendyK!! I just finished one of JR Ward's and now starting up a YA called SALEM WITCH TRYOUTS that a friend of mine reccommended...

As for not reading in the genre I'm writing at the moment..I don't really pay attention! Books don't influence me any more than watching movies or listening to music. Sometimes I'll read an old favorite before I start a book, just to sort of put me in the right mood..=) Suspense or comedy or drama. Setting the flavor of the book is the most important thing for me.

Then I just start typing--and so far, thank Heaven, haven't had a shortage of things to say! LOL

I'm reading CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF A SEXY KIND by Karen Kelly. Next will probably be SPEAK NO EVIL by Allison Brennan.

I just ordered some books from Amazon but they are probably going to take a while to get here and it's JR Ward's fault :-) They are holding the shippment until her latest is released.

I have my copy of Lover Revealed by JR Ward already prepurchased at amazon.com. I can't wait to get it in the mail. That will be my next read, I love that series.

Currently I am reading It Had To Be You by Susan Elizabeth Phillips and A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ishmael Beah. A definite must read.

I am reading a very funny book by an editor turned new author. Bridie Clark.

The book BECAUSE SHE CAN..is about a young book editor that is stepping up to a new position at powerhouse publishing house with eons of New York Times best sellers.
Great job...caveat the boss from hell. So funny and also INFORMATIVE.
It is like THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA.

    Very funny read.

Hi Maureen! I recently finished a YA that I know you read and my young niece loved, I'd Tell You I Love You But Then I'd Have To Kill You. Really enjoyable! Now I'm with everyone else, reading the second JR Ward, which I love!! I've got the new SEP and another JR Ward and...oh, a few hundred more in my TBR pile. It's a mystery how I keep reading and yet the pile grows higher...

Lately, it's been all about the books that revolve around Chandler. I have "Some Kind of Wonderful," "The Basics of Latin" and "Color Her Dead" in the TBR pile. Any suggestions for anything else?
