Say it ain't so........
Sticking with what seems to be my paranormal theme in my last few posts....
Have any of you started worrying about Harry Potter? JK Rowling's given us plenty of forewarning...teasing us, taunting us, saying some characters she thought were going to die, survived--and others, not so much.
She's even said in interviews that she may kill Harry off so no one else can ever write about him again. Well, I hope she rethinks that. Because, come on. Harry lives in a wisardry world. Dumbledore could reanimate him, right?? RIGHT???
I don't want to worry about Harry. I want him to defeat Voldemort, marry Ginny Weasley and be best friends with Hermione and Ron for the rest of his extremely successful life!
But then, that's why I write romance. I love a happy ending.............

She absolutely cannot kill off Harry. It would be sacrilege, not to mention selfish and annoying!!
But I have heard those rumors...I think she's just taunting us.
And what's wrong with a happy ending, dammit?? LOL

She'd better not kill off Harry. My son, the J would have to kill her. He loves those books, has grown up with Harry. Maybe she's going to kill the love interest. Because, like...she can!

I don't think she'll kill Harry, it would break the collective heart of millions of readers! It would be too cruel.

I don't believe that she will kill Harry--but I do think that she will put him in enough peril to make us all squirm with extreme discomfort.
My kids are HP addicts. They got addicted before my oldest son could read--therefore I have read the entire collection to this point aloud to my family. My DH has never read the books, he has only "heard" them.
When the book comes out this summer--my oldest son will be old enough to read it on his own...don't know if that means we will be getting 2 copies. ??
In fact, when we got to the 3rd book, some people had told us that they thought they were a little "dark" for kids--and so I read those myself first, and then aloud to the family. I had an entire summer when I was unemployed where pretty much my whole life was consumed with Harry, Ron, Hermione--and he who will not be named.
I sincerely hope that she doesn't disappoint us all by killing him off.
Have a great day all...

Kate, I'm with you! It would be hideous of her to kill Harry!! After all he's been through!
Chris, my kids feel the same.
Jen, I really hope you're right.
Kim good for you! People forget that kids' nightmares and imaginations are much darker than we'd like to think. With Harry, kids get to see a child standing up to monsters and winning!
Besides....anything that can get kids to enjoy reading is okay by me!

Hummm, I could live with dead Harry. I mean that in the nicest possible way, of course. I don't want him to die, mind you. But it would be a very memorable way to end the series without actually ending the series. However, were I JK (ready to step up to the plate if need be) I'd select my successor now, unless she wants her characters to suffer the same fate as Scarlett and Rhett. I'm still trung to figure out how/why/what/huh? shallow, selfish, interesting GWTW Scarlett turned into miniseries make-over, movie-of-the-week Scarlett.

Rhonda!! Nice to see you! Okay, you've got a point. JK should be thinking about these things. Because whether she wants them to or not, somone'll revive Harry! Look at VC Andrews. She's sold more books since she died than before!
And I too am at a loss as to what happened to poor Scarlett...
Sandy, right back atcha!

Kim: We've done the 2-book buy so that both sons can read Harry at the same time. It's worth it...and then you'll always be able to keep a copy on your shelves.

I think Harry's a goner. Why? She said she envisioned the ending before she was even done with book I. She wrote the last chapter of the last book and put it in a file. She saw the entire arc. She saw it before there was the Harry Potter craze. So I don't know if she feels an obligation to all her kid fans so much as to the original arc she created for Harry. I think he's doomed. Sadly.

I don't think JKR is going to kill Harry. I agree with Erica that she had the whole story arc in her head and she wrote the last chapter, BUT I think the last chapter's name is the same as the first books first chapter...The Boy Who Lived. She is brilliant and every book has had a perfect arc and been perfect in the series arc. I have a Harry Potter Book Group at my Store and we started re-reading the books this month to be ready for Book 7 in July. I've read or listened to the books at least 3 times , now 4 and I still can't figure how she did it. To kill Harry would be just too too terrible. I can't even think about it. My heart would break. In little pieces.
Always,
Michelle

Maureen,
I think she may kill off Harry ...after exposing his raw talent in the play Equisys.
