History Day Cancelled Due to Cranky Computer!

Yes, I admit it.

I've been done in by a blasted computer!

I had History Day facts all typed up--a great picture of West Point Academy graduates, and then hit post.

Nada.

Twice.

So, in the hope of not bashing my head through my computer screen, this is my last attempt at posting today.

I do remember that West Point was started on this day in some year way back when.

I also remember that Hitler dumped the Versailles Treaty today at some point in time.

And the My Lai massacre happened today during the VietNam war...

Alas, that's all I've got from my memory banks..........so, if anybody out there wants to give it a shot, tell me what happened today in history!

    Hello, Maureen -

    Hope your computer recovers soon!

In the best interest of History Day, maybe the following from the New York Times website:

1521 Portuguese navigator Ferdinand Magellan reached the Philippines, where he was killed by natives the following month.

1751 James Madison, the fourth president of the United States, was born in Port Conway, Va.

1802 Congress authorized the establishment of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y.

1836 The Republic of Texas approved a constitution.

1850 "The Scarlet Letter" by Nathaniel Hawthorne was published.

1868 On March 16, Maxim Gorky, a Russian writer of short stories, novels and plays, was born. Following his death on June 14, 1936, his obituary appeared in The Times.

1915 The Federal Trade Commission was organized.

1935 Adolf Hitler scrapped the Treaty of Versailles.

    1968 My Lai massacre

1984 William Buckley, the CIA station chief in Beirut, was kidnapped by gunmen.

I'm sorry I don't have any great photos for you, but maybe the "factoids" will suffice!

    Cheers,
    Kim

I hope you're not grinding your teeth over it. Sometimes I wonder if computers just don't get bored, and this is their method for entertainment. Sitting there watching the steam come out of our ears in frustration.

    Hey, K!

THANKS! LOL.....I had most of those in my first ill fated post! Poor Magellan. I suppose some people just don't care to be 'discovered'!

Oh, God. The Scarlet Letter!! Wasn't that a dreadful book???

    You saved me!

Thanks for the sympathy! I believe it was a conspiracy between my computer and Blogger!!

And yes, I do think they both enjoyed the steam effect!

I tried to find facts that weren't already here:

1881: A virtuous woman turns murderous-Francisco "Chico" Forster is shot to death on downtown Los Angeles street by his jilted lover, eighteen-year old Lastania Abarta. (Note to self, no 18 yr old lovers...duh)

    1909: Court rules Ben-Hur a copyright violation

1964: Can't Buy Me Love released

    1971: Pacino settles MGM suit

1977: Alex Haley sues Doubleday over Roots

Ellen......ooh, got some good ones there. Wow. Wish I was the NY lotto winner!!

Hey, Erick! Nice job on finding facts overlooked by the other sleuths here!

LOL, I'm with you. Ol' Francisco should have known better than to mess with a teenaged lover. I'm guessing he had it coming to him!

Hmm...wonder what Alex Haley's suit was about???
