History Day..........

History Day is back! And to kick us off.... a picture of the original Women's Liberation Movement! Because on this day in 1915, the House of Representatives voted to DENY women the vote. Ah yes. Our government at work. Even back then, managing to ignore one half of the population. Thanks Guys!

And in other news.....

1773, the first public museum in America was established in Charleston, SC

1932, Hattie Carraway became the first woman elected to the US Senate. (Bet she had some bad days)

1943, it's Frankfurter Day! The Office of Price Administration announced that the standard frankfurter/hot dog would be replaced with VICTORY SAUSAGE, made of meat and soybean meal. (ooh, yummy! Clearly, the folks at home during WWII had to make plenty of sacrifices too!)

1949, the Chicago based children's program, Kukla, Fran and Ollie made its national debut on NBC

1963, Songwirter Bob Dylan sang BLOWIN' IN THE WIND on the BBC radio presentation of The Madhouse of Castle Street,

1965, the TV show HULLABALOO made its debut on NBC. It was a direct competition maneuver to ABC's SHINDIG. Guests on the first show included The New Christy Minstrels, Gerry and the Pacemakers, the Zombies (loved them!) and of all people, Woody Allen.

1966, Batman debuted on ABC

1971, ALL IN THE FAMILY premiered on CBS

1987, Europe was snowed in as a SIBERIAN EXPRESS spread across the continent

That's it for me. What've you got? Remember, post this week and win some books!

1935- "Lawrence of Arabia" who led the Arabs in their revolt against Turkey, is killed in a crash on a motorcycle given to him by Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw.
